Drive By Storytelling at the Steelhead Hotel Ballroom

The Steelhead Public Library will be sponsoring yet another storytelling event at the Steelhead Hotel and Ballroom this Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Twelve Noon, SLT.

Come on foot, on horseback, or by teleport. Hitch up the team and come by sleigh, or, if you are the adventurous type, try out that new-fangled horseless carriage. Listen to a few tall (or not so tall) tales, and perhaps share a few of your own. We will meet in the beautiful Steelhead Hotel Ballroom, which is located about a block from the Steelhead Public Library.

This is an informal storytelling session - all are invited to come and listen or contribute. Brief stories or poems are most welcome.

Original material is appreciated, but not required. If you did not write the material you will be performing, it is your responsibility to determine that the work is no longer covered by copyright or to obtain permission from the copyright holder.

Stories may be in either text or SL voice. If SL and RL permit, voice stories will be streamed on Gargoyle Radio.

Town Hall Meeting Highlights for December 30, 2008

  • New Year's Eve - Party hosted by the JLU in Steelhead Port Harbor, 3 PM SLT till ?
  • Whacky Wednesday in Steeltopia is cancelled this week but will return to its regularly scheduled time on January 7.
  • Friday, January 3 - Tiny Misfit Broken Toys, 7 PM SLT at the Ballroom
  • Saturday, January 3 - Drive-by storytelling at the Ballroom beginning at noon. This will be an informal gathering and open to the public. Anyone interested in reading, IM Riven Homewood for a time slot.
  • Saturday, January 17 - Book discussion led by Miss Searra Weatherwax on "The Hogfather" by Terry Pratchett starting at 12 noon, SLT.
  • Although Steelhead holds themed events weekly, being in theme is not a requirement and/or an obligation. Feel free to come as you are and have a good time!
  • Lunar has officially begun training for tax season, so his time in SL will be cut in one quarter. If you have a question regarding land, moving a parcel line, or if someone wants to buy land, drop him a notecard. Don't send him an IM when he's offline as they'll be capped and missed. You can also e-mail him at lunareclipse@steelheadcity.us
  • Tensai will continue to handle all technical questions including questions/problems regarding rental poles.
  • Katt, Tensai and Lunar are the only Estate Managers for Steelhead. They are the only ones empowered to restart the sim or to ban a griefer sim wide.
  • Fuzzball will continue to conduct Town Hall meetings. He will also be in charge of Councilor meetings for now. If you want to make an announcement during Town Hall meetings, please drop a notecard on Fuzzball before the meeting.
  • MANAGEMENT'S STATEMENT REGARDING GRIEFERS: If there are people that are being rowdy, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ITHILL do not turn a griefer into a confused TP mess! Contact Fuzzball or Tensai immediately. They are the only two that can engage a counter attack on greifers. Contact councilors if Tensai and Fuzz are not online (tensai can estate ban offline if needed). Remember: You as a landowner can ban people off your parcel. Fuzz & councilors can ban off the commons. If Management catches someone griefing a griefer... it won't be a pretty talk. 90% of the time its a noob that's confused, so assess the situation or just call management.
  • GROUP NOTICES - Due to conflicts in events and several unauthorized notices being sent out we're now limiting what gets sent out as far as group notices are concerned. The Steelhead Library, Steelhead groups such as the JLU in Port Harbor and Navy (soon to come) and SH related events will of course have notices sent out. Notices from other sims that are AFFILIATED with Steelhead will continue to be sent out, provided those events do not conflict with a Steelhead event. All events outside of Steelhead have to be cleared by either Lunar or Tensai or Fuzz before a notice will be sent out. If your event conflicts with a Steelhead event, you can post in chat but a notice will not be sent out.
  • IF YOU ARE PLANNING A MASSIVE PARTY in or out of Steelhead and would like Steelhead participation, please let management know, preferably a week or more before the event so we can avoid scheduling conflicts.

A MESSAGE FROM LUNAR: "Recently there has been alot of talk on the public channels around the communities. People being mean to each other, namecalling... and worse. SL to me is a place of peace and fun and in Steelhead silliness. We have a unique and beautiful diversity of people living in our community. We may not always see the same but that is what I love about what we've become. I love everyone's perspectives on the world we created and embrace the silliness that we are.

I want to keep Steelhead in that happy silliness that makes us unique. I will not abide by filth in the public channels or slandering of your friends and neighbors. I trust everyone in Steelhead, I have rarely ever had this problem. But it is out there in other communities and I want to make sure everyone knows where your management stands.

Steelhead for its small size has a very high amount of activity from its residents. When there is something wrong, we all feel it, we all hurt over it... and worse yet I hurt because of it. Everyone here is my friends, we've laughed together and we've cried together, there isn't one person here I haven't had a connection with. The pixleated person in front of you may not be real but the human behind the puppet is very much real.

Personally if it is a private problem it is not my problem. If it is brought to my attention I can advise and be a conflict mediator. But if it becomes a public problem it becomes my problem. Your councilors and sheriff are instructed to moderate public channels. If I hear of public slander on my chat I will take action, abuse to each other will not be tolerated and severe consequences will be handed out.

Know that this is an extremity to a growing problem faced in other communities, so far in Steelhead this isn't a problem and I want to make sure it will not be one in the future. -Lunar"

and a final thought...

"I would like to thank everyone who has been hounding me, threatening me and sending me reminders about my medicine. It’s a night/day difference, my blood pressure went from 70/70 back up to 120/80 and best of all I've had no black outs since it has been steady in my system. It's extremely difficult for me to remember to take them even though the bottle sits in front of me. I really appreciate your help, your threats and the fun that ensues over it. You guys rock! -Lunar"

Gifts will be given on Christmas day to those who have entered.

  • MAYFAIR EMPORIUM LAUNCHING: Tomorrow (Wednesday, December 17, 2008) on Caledon Mayfair's Rezzday, Steadman Kondor Publishing will be launching the Mayfair Emporium at Caledon Mayfair, 1-2pm, and 6.30-7.30pm. Krimson Karnival of Steeltopia Opens in Port Harbor

Ever wonder what SteelCobra Calamari spends his time building during the wee hours of the night? Then pop over to The Krimson Karnival of Steeltopia in Port Harbor. There's a ferris wheel, a carousel, and a shooting gallery. Work is still progressing on a coffee kiosk, but there's still plenty of fun to be found here. And the killer klowns have a wicked sense of humor.
